Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Every year at Little Kiwis, we celebrated the Māori Language Week together with the rest of New Zealand. As a multicultural centre, we have always been using various different languages throughout the daily programme, and children are often exposed with different cultural experiences. This reinforces children’s sense of belonging in the Centre as well as helps children to learn, understand and respect the differences within each culture. During the Māori Language Week, we have done many activities that extend children’s knowledge and skills. Children developed communication skills and gained literacy learning experience as they practiced new phrases in Māori, sang Māori songs, and read stories about Māori legends. We baked … Continue reading »

We will also continue with our daily Scripture reading in each room. Children enjoy taking turn and reading the Bible verses out loud. They not only received the wisdom from God, but also practiced their pronunciation, developed language skills, gained knowledge of new vocabulary, … Continue reading »

It was again the Little Kiwis’ annual celebration of the Samoan Language Week, which was held during the last week of May 2013. Thank you for all the aiga (family), who supported us by coming to the events, providing ideas of activities, and dressing up your lovely children in Samoan clothing. Children enjoyed singing songs, reading stories, counting numbers and learning simple greetings in Samoan. We also made lots of cultural arts and crafts, such as tapa printing and making pale (white head band). The performance held on Friday 31st May was a truly wonderful time for the children and their family. We had a lot of family members coming … Continue reading »

Christmas Party 2012 (7 December)

Our Christmas Party on the 7th December was truly terrific. We would like to show our appreciation to the parents for your support this year through all the fundraisings (PhotoLife, Papatoetoe Family Festival, and Cadbury Chocolate which is still going), which made this annual event a fantastic success. We had numerous entertainers, giving our families and children lots of excitement, which included pony ride, bouncy castle, and Captain Bill who came back the second time round from popular demand. Children performed the birth of Jesus Christ drama and sang Christmas carols, all of which they had been practising. Children also showed some moves at the disco night, which they all … Continue reading »
