Christian Theme – The Good News (December)

Christmas- the good will and the amazing grace of God was displayed to all mankind. This month, our children will learn the true meaning of the birth of Jesus Christ, our Saviour: His love and mercy to all the chosen people of our God, and the promises of our Father, the salvation of men, and His righteousness accomplished.  May the great joy and the peace that He fulfilled will be everlasting in our lives. December Memory Verse: “The Angel said to them: ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Saviour has … Continue reading »

Christian Theme – Smart (November)

Last month we emphasized in teaching children to speak kindly towards each other. This month we will continue to strengthen our children to mature in God’s giving character and to lead a life with humility. Wisdom is the knowledge we need to live in this life and to interact with our circumstances and with those around us. At Little Kiwis, we educate our children that God is the true source of all wisdom and is always willing to give it to us when we ask. But there is always meekness to wisdom, as it says here “the humility…comes from wisdom.” Explicitly, we are not wise on our own. We are … Continue reading »

Christian Theme – Smart (October)

Last term Little Kiwis focused on encouraging children to do good deeds so that Jesus’ name may be glorified through them. This month we will continue on to another important Christian educating aspect on teaching children to speak kindly towards one another. The truth is, our tongue can be used to bring great blessings and it can also do great damage. Our goal at Little Kiwis is to train our children to increasingly use their tongue to the glory of God.  According to Ephesians 4:29; our words should do two things – build others up and benefit them in some way. If our words harm others in any way, they … Continue reading »

Christian Theme – First Impressions (September)

Little Kiwis looks for the potential of each child, we see and celebrate the wide range of diversity in abilities and interests, kindling the flame of their hearts and souls with the most loving and inspiring teaching. One of our most important aspects of educating our children is to recognize that they are born with different abilities and that all of them are capable to progress. Little Kiwis wants to encourage our children to use what God has given them- their gifts and talents to be the light of the world and to grow up with humility, compassion and loving attitude. We want our children to know the focus of … Continue reading »

Little Kiwis Olympic Month – August

2012 London Olympics is at the door, and Little Kiwis is very excited to be part of this special event. This event will come as a catalyst to engage our children and children around the world in learning about Olympics. Little Kiwis will incorporate all sorts of fun and meaningful activities for our children to spark their interest in learning a variety of topics. We will have physical education – a great way to introduce the different sports which will lead to their participation of a mini physical event. Our teachers will also discuss with children about why we have Olympics, and introduce some of the past and present NZ … Continue reading »

Christian Theme – First Impressions (August)

This month we want to support our children to do what is right in the Lord’s eyes and believe in what they can do and to keep doing it, so that others may see the excellence in them and will come to know our God through them. Our children learnt to pray to God in everything and now we want to encourage them to pray that they can do things and say things that please Him. Our centre’s belief is to help our children to grow in God’s love, knowledge and grace, in order that the Gospel may be spread and more people will come to believe in Jesus. August … Continue reading »

Matariki Festival 2012 (18 – 22 June)

It is known as Maori New Year, signaling a time to say good-bye to the past year and move on to the new year ahead. Little Kiwis has joined the celebration by learning Māori songs, such as Ma is White and Te Tinana, Māori words and phrases (e.g. numbers and colours), they also learnt Māori food prayer and encouraged to say it before meals. Children were introduced with Māori story books, and we were all so excited when Sienna-bella’s Mum came to tell the Sky Room children a Māori myth. Through various activities held this week, children experienced “an environment where they are encouraged to learn with and alongside others” (Te Whāriki, … Continue reading »

Christian Theme – First Impressions (July)

Last term we focused on the importance of prayer, and our children learnt that the meaning of prayer is to have conversation with our Heavenly Father. They learnt to never give up praying, that prayer changes things and that prayer makes all things possible. Our God hears and answers us and is watching over us every minute and every day. This term our Christian Theme shifts to First Impression. First impressions matter and they last. The Bible says that people look at the outside appearance, God looks at the heart. This is why it is so important to teach our children at their young age not to judge others as … Continue reading »

Sign Language – children’s current interest

Ever since we introduced Sign Language in New Zealand Sign Language Week, our children have continued to learn and discover this beautiful language. The teaching staff have been providing more learning opportunities for them to help further explore this new area of interest. For example, we learnt to sign our memory verses, we learnt different children songs by signing and we continued our learning in signing alphabets, numbers, and colours. Through these activities, children developed a perception of themselves as capable of acquiring new skills and abilities (Te Whāriki, Contribution, Goal 2, 1996) as they continue their journey in learning a language that is different from their own. Little Kiwis will … Continue reading »

Samoan Language Week 2012 (27 May – 2 June)

Samoan Language Week took place from Sunday 27 May to Saturday 2 June. This year’s theme was “O le Vāfealoa’i”- “Strong and Respectful Relationships”. Little Kiwis is a multi-cultural early childhood education provider, we promote and emphasize the importance in recognizing and respecting different ethnicities. Some of our teachers and children are from the beautiful Island of Samoa, and children at Little Kiwis have been happily learning numbers and saying simple greetings in Samoan Language. Te Whāriki builds on what the children bring to their learning from their socio-cultural background. Thus it is important for us to help make links between everyday activities, special events of whānau, local communities and cultures, and their … Continue reading »
