In 2012, our Little Kiwis children are in for another exciting year of outdoor trips! The trips each term are based on children’s current interests, and are planned for the purpose of extending these interests and enabling children to make links with similar interests in different contexts. Outdoor trips assist “children and their families [to] experience an environment where connecting links with the family and the wider world are affirmed and extended” (Te Whariki, Belonging Goal 1).
Last year before Christmas we planned for our exciting trip to visit the Sky Tower. Now the trip is confirmed to be held in February this year! The trip to the Sky Tower will especially help children in developing “knowledge about the features of the area or physical and/or spiritual significance to the local community” (Te Whariki, Belonging Goal 1), as they look at and learn about the natural landscape of Auckland. Outdoor trips also provide opportunities for parents and whānau to get better involved in their children’s learning and to create meaningful childhood memories. It will be a wonderful experience for children at the Sky Tower, and so we welcome parents and family members to come on the trip with us.
The details will be provided in the next few days so please keep a close eye on our Centre Notice Whiteboard!
