Rūma Whakapono: Under 2s

Our exceptional child-to-staff ratio allows infants to develop to their fullest potential in an environment where they have secure relationships with caring, responsive teachers and feel safe and free to explore and learn. At Rūma Whakapono, we pride ourselves on providing our children and families with a welcoming and cosy environment where close bonds are built between our professional teachers and our youngest children. Our teachers work with parents to understand and cater to each baby’s needs and routines.

Our custom-built Whakapono room has a separate and adjoining baby pen which includes provisions for our infants’ meal time, mirrors for self-awareness, pull-up bars for gross motor skills such as standing and walking, and resources with a range of shapes, sizes, and textures for sensorial development. Our outdoor area has appropriate height equipment and proper surfacing to keep our babies safe and minimise injuries while empowering them to master walking, practise running, discover climbing, and explore the surrounding world.

Our Montessori-inspired programme focuses on encouraging independence in infants and toddlers and helping them to develop basic and brand-new skills in the first two years of life: social-emotional (feeling safe and secure to express their feelings and emotions, learning to identify the emotions of themselves and others), communication (listening, talking, and understanding), and self-help (eating, dressing, tidying up).

In addition to the formal qualifications, our teachers are engaged in regular internal training and professional discussions, which cover the relevant policies and procedures and updated teaching methodologies to ensure we have an in-depth understanding of how infants and toddlers learn and grow.
